Having been at a childrens party until 2:15pm, I was unable to travel too far so I decided to head down to Mundford Road to watch the Thetford Town Reserves team. Having not seen the reserves team this season, I was looking forward to seeing some potential Thetford Town first team players.

Both teams came out in their home colours, Thetford Town in claret and blue and Woodbridge Town in black and white stripes. It was a warm, yet grey day, and having rained earlier the ground was a bit soft.

KEY MOMENTS

TTR = Thetford Town Reserves

WTR = Woodbridge Town Reserves

2' - TTR - Thetford come close from a corner, a scramble in the box sees two shots fired in (from the No. 6 and No. 8?), both of which are blocked amongst calls for a handball.

3' - TTR - Thetford have a free-kick in an advanced position on the right flank, the No. 4 steps up to take it, and rather than crossing the ball he has a crack and forces the keeper to stretch to make a save.

14' - WTR - GOAL (0-1) - Woodbridge attack down the right flank, the ball is crossed in and deflected, dropping to Dodman who hits the ball home to give Woodbridge the early lead, a slightly fortuitous goal for the unlucky Thetford team.

28' - TTR - Brazao picks up the ball on the edge of the area and cuts across until he makes the space for a well hit strike, but it is straight at the keeper and he secures the ball.

29' - WTR - The captain, Broom, has a go from 25 yards out, his effort flying just wide.

34' - TTR - A brilliant through-ball sees Brazao through on goal, he takes the ball into the box and hits a shot across the keeper, but he flings a leg out to make a good save and deny Thetford the equaliser.

37' - WTR - A poor backpass from a Thetford defender puts it on a plate for Dodman, it looks a surefire goal, but the Thetford keeper makes a fine reaction save.

45' - WTR - From a corner, the ball falls to Hall, he has a go, but his effort is straight at the keeper.

51' - TTR - Brazao bursts down the right wing, he makes his way into the box, but his effort across the face of goal goes wide of the far post.

55' - TTR - A freekick is taken by the captain, No. 20, the No. 8 flicks a back-header towards goal and it goes very close.

60' - WTR - Hall has a crack from a good position at the edge of the area, but the effort is skied.

68' - TTR - Some great skill from Brazao in the box opens up some space for another shot, but the effort is wide of the mark.

71' - WTR - Stevens bursts through, and bearing down with the goal gaping in front of him he blasts the shot over.

77' - TTR - The No. 10 is through on goal, but the effort is well saved by Ferguson to deny Thetford yet again.

82' - TTR - The No.10 hits a free-kick, it is parried by the keeper but falls to the No.5 whose effort flies over the bar.

88' - TTR - Two substitutes link up, the No. 15 flashes in a ball and the No. 14 goes really close.

Despite the loss, Thetford Town Reserves battled hard all game and they certainly created enough chances to claim a point, but it was not to be on the day, as they lose to a slightly lucky early goal. It was great watching the reserves and seeing a decent turnout at the club, I'd guess at least 40 people, and I was particularly impressed with Brazao and the No.2, with some of the substitutes also looking bright. After the game, I found out that Woodbridge keeper George Ferguson was a stand-in, despite not being a keeper he put in a fantastic performance and made a string of good saves - what a performance, surely man-of-the-match! It is a big one next week for the Thetford Town first team as they host local rivals Walsham-le-Willows, which is bound to be a huge turnout - I cannot wait, UP THE TOWN!!!
