Final Score: Thetford Town 2-2 Stowmarket Town
Today marks the first of a double-header against Stowmarket Town, the away game next week re-arranged due to the very wet weather earlier in the year. Thetford Town still have plenty to play for, with the play-offs still a possibility, whereas Stowmarket have had a challenging year, with nothing to play for. This however makes them dangerous, with no pressure on them they could play with more fluency, and they have blown hot and cold this season, making them a dangerous opponent indeed. However, if Thetford Town want to make the play-offs, a win this afternoon would be essential.
Today's match day programme had goalkeeper Elliot Pride on the front-cover, who has recently made his return following an injury early into his role as the Thetford Town No.1.

It was a sunny afternoon but there was quite a chill in the air. There was a large crowd this afternoon with the annual dinner preceding the game, and a good buzz around the ground. The teams lined-up in front of the spectators, with Thetford Town in claret and blue and Stowmarket Town in their change strip of white shirts and black shorts.
KEY MOMENTS
TT = Thetford Town
ST = Stowmarket Town
29' - ST - First good chance of the game falls to the visitors. Simmons with the ball down the right-flank, he manages to get in-front of the defenders to cross the ball, it is whipped across at pace and finds Jack Wharton-Richardson open at the far-post, from close range he side-foots the ball in the air and it clatters into the near post and out, Stowmarket should have been 1-0 up.
33' - TT - GOAL (1-0) - The Stowmarket chance kicks Thetford into life, from a corner the ball finds Buttle on the edge of the left-side of the box, he plays a neat 1-2 with Haylett and is through on goal slotting the ball into the net, brilliant move and finish to give the hosts the lead!
35' - TT - GOAL (2-0) - Laker with a diagonal ball across the box, it is heading into captain Elliot Smith at the far-post, Stowmarket defender Alfie Norman gets his head on the ball but miscalculates and ends up heading it across goal and into the net, wrong-footing the tracking keeper. A quick-fire two goal lead for the hosts.
44' - TT - Buttle slides Grove in down the right, he speeds to the byline and cuts in to the edge of the box, he lays the ball back to Buttle on the edge of the box, he drops his shoulder and fires in a curling effort towards the bottom left-corner, but Hudson gets down well to make the save, Laker is onto the rebound like a flash, but from a narrow angle he blazes over.
45'+1' - TT - Harvey Lott is played through on goal, he is 1-on-1 with the keeper and tries to fire across him, Hudson makes a fine stop and Diggens is on the rebound, but his effort is deflected wide for a corner. From this corner, captain Elliot Smith flashes a dangerous ball across the mouth of the goal, but nobody is able to connect and the chance goes begging.
53' - ST - GOAL (2-1) - A swift counter attack, a tempting ball for Jack Wharton-Richardson to run onto, Pride elects to come out to meet the ball at the corner of the box, but the Stowmarket forward beats the Thetford keeper to the ball and dinks the ball over him and the ball bounces into the net, and the Thetford lead is reduced to one.
61' - TT - Thetford almost respond immediately, Buttle with a perfectly weighted ball with the outside of his boot puts Olpin through inside the box, Hudson covers him well and the shot is saved by his outstretched boot,
LONG STOPPAGE - The games is stopped for around 10 minutes, it was unclear why at first, but soon became apparent that it was due to offensive comments coming in from the crowd that the linesman had heard. Looked close to the game being called off, but Thetford Town manager Matt Morton speaks to the crowd to the diffuse the situation.
75' - TT - Hudson comes out of his area to compete for a ball on the by-line, Diggens steals it off him and tries to chip the scrambling keeper, but his effort flies just over the bar.
89' - ST - GOAL (2-2) - Thetford concede a silly free-kick in a dangerous area. A brilliant ball in from substitute Butt right into the mixer, and the deftest of headers from fellow substitute Igwebuike directs the ball beyond Pride and Stowmarket sensationally draw level!
94' - TT - Buttle creating issues down the left again, he crosses the ball into the box, it is only partially cleared and drops to substitute Ebanks-Blake, he goes for an audacious bicycle kick and connects cleanly, but it is directly at Hudson for a relatively comfortable save, unlucky.
103' - ST - Stowmarket almost snatch all three points at the death, substitute Grabowski is slid in but Pride is out quickly to make a fine stop!
A disappointing result for Thetford Town having been 2-0 up, but I think injuries are taking their toll on the squad, and this is making it difficult to get the required results. We are looking thin at the back, lacking centre-backs with Jaydyn Lott and Wells injured, the makeshift pairing of Elliot Smith and Haylett have played brilliantly but Haylett went off injured, his loss clearly felt. Other injuries include talisman Cameron King, and worryingly Billy Batch came off after six minutes this afternoon, and this is making things incredibly tough. I think the play-off dream is on a knife-edge, and we are going to be relying on other results going our way, whilst winning our remaining games, and this does look unlikely if honest. The near-abandonment of the game this afternoon was also embarrassing, and seemed to really take the wind out of Thetford's sails, both the players and the fans, hopefully we don't see scenes like these again at Mundford Road. Next up, The Brecklanders have an exciting away game coming up next week in the reverse of this fixture where they can look to make amends for this afternoon, always a great ground to visit, hoping for a big away support, and a big turnaround, UP THE TOWN!!!
