Half-time score: Thetford Town 0-0 Ipswich Wanderers

Final Score: Thetford Town 0-0 Ipswich Wanderers

A massive game at The Lomax Spiral Systems Stadium this afternoon, as Thetford Town face old foes Ipswich Wanderers. Having made some big marquee signings over the summer, Ipswich Wanderers firmly cemented themselves as one of the teams to beat, and whilst they have had a strong strong start, a recent run of draws and losses sees them without a win in 4 games and outside of the playoffs but with games in hand. Thetford Town would be hoping to extend this streak today, with a win needed to keep pace with March Town United, but would the huge incoming storm this afternoon get in the way?

A very wet and blustery afternoon at Thetford Town, all fans huddled in the stands and under the marquee, and with a great turnout this afternoon the place felt packed. Out into the atrocious conditions the teams lined up, Thetford Town in claret and blue and Ipswich Wanderers in their away all-grey kits.

KEY MOMENTS

TT = Thetford Town

IW = Ipswich Wanderers

28' - TT - Only a couple of half-chances from both teams in the first quarter, until Wells in an advanced position crosses in from the left, a first time ball curled in, Lott coming in off the right leaps up to control the ball but pushes his effort wide of the post.

35' - IW - Jacob Lay showing his class, he shimmied through a couple of challenges and fires in an effort from the edge of the box, but the effort is directly at Sutton who holds onto the slippery ball.

40' - IW - A corner ball is initially cleared, it is recycled and Tate is played in, he lashes in a cross goal shot but a phenomenal diving block from Ward comes in, brilliant defending.

41' - IW - Another corner ball, Wanderers captain Rose comes steaming in, he just misses it and it drops to the surprised Inglis whose tame effort is dropped on by Sutton.

41' - TT - Lott on the right charges forwards and plays a brilliant ball across to King in the middle, he rounds Garnham and fires in at the near-post, but Alfie Smith slides across from nowhere and manages to clear the ball off the line, smashing into the post and knocking the entire goal frame back in the process, luckily he is not injured but talk about putting your body on the line!

54' - IW - Lay again through the middle, he shuffles the ball out to Lambe who curls in an effort, but Sutton gets down well to make a fine save.

71' - TT - Cooper whips a ball in from the right-flank, it is dropping perfectly to substitute Dylan Kirk, the Wanderer centre-back sees the threat and implements a two-handed shove on Kirk, he goes straight to ground, it is one the most blatant penalties I've seen but the referee and linesman are unmoved, baffling to say the least.

72' - IW - Wanderers break through Lay down the right, he powers in a cross-goal strike it is parried into the path of substitute Fraser who slots in, but it was from an offside position and the goal is scratched off.

73' - TT - Kirk wins the ball deep in the Wanderers half and bursts towards the box, he shuffles the ball to Henman-Mason, it looks like a half-strike/half-pass, it is creeping towards the far corner but is cleared and the chance goes begging.

87' - IW - RED CARD - A crazy red card from substitute Eaton-Collins. An initial yellow for kicking the ball away followed by a quick second, not sure what for so I am presuming for something he said, and he is sent his marching orders, absolute head loss.

The late red card saw Ipswich Wanderers play out the game with 10-men, but they defended well and Thetford only managed a couple of long range strikes which flew over, meaning the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate, the same result as last season at Mundford Road. The weather played a huge part in this game, the heavy rain and strong winds leading to a lot of stray balls and slippages. Both teams had chances to score, but neither could find the net, and in the end it was Thetford Town who were pushing for the win, but could not carve out the desired chances. The Ipswich Wanderers main threat was Jacob Lay, he is a class player and tied the Thetford back-line up in knots at times. Some big performances across the park from TTFC in atrocious conditions, is a real shame that King's effort did not creep in as well as the penalty shout not going our way, on another day it could have been a huge win, but it was not for lack of trying. Overall, no real damage done and another clean sheet, onwards to Woodbridge Town away next week, will be a big test in hopefully drier conditions, UP THE TOWN!!
